Featured in my latest exhibition, these photographs go beyond the usual impressions of Japan, of the bustle of Tokyo’s Ginza or the tranquillity of temples and raked Zen gardens. Instead I've set out to capture those ‘in-between’ spaces of anticipation, where light and shade and textures convey the very special Japanese sense of mono-no-aware, a pathos of things.
Travelling the backroads and exploring backstreets, I've taken a more humanist approach through my lens, surrendering to the 'unknowingness' of Japan. The resulting images in ‘Paper Moon’ reflect the moods of this enigmatic country and also a spirit of universality, of the world we share and is also deep within ourselves.
All the images from ‘The Planet of Possibilities’ exhibition, presented in a beautiful red suede-finish boxed set with magnetic clasp. Numbered edition of 30 only. Reproduced on German archival-quality paper, each of these 21 prints measures 21 x 15cms. There are four colour images and 17 black-and-white, plus the exhibition poster and catalogue. Each box is individually signed by the photographer Tony Maniaty. A unique and thoughtful gift for Christmas.

Testimonials
“As a filmmaker, what appeals to me is Tony Maniaty’s ability to create a powerful narrative in every image, to tell an entire story in a single frame. His use of composition and light to convey that is remarkable. Like a great movie, you return to these photographs over and over again."
“You know someone has ‘an eye’ for photography when they see a great shot in something that everyone else walks past. Tony Maniaty has that sixth sense. Subject, composition, shade, light - all important, but his photos have that extra element, an empathy that draws you into the moment...”
“A great photographer. His images don’t just capture moments in time, they crystallise the very emotional essence of those moments. Tony Maniaty's images are elegant, understated, memorable.”
